Jacob's Pillow presents Caleb Teicher and Nic Gareiss

Celebrated and award-winning artists Caleb Teicher and Nic Gareiss take you on a joyful journey through the intersection of jazz and folk, social and solo dance. This new evening-length duo collaboration is a work of playful transgression, blurring boundaries to explore improvisation, song, and the world of percussive dance. Experience a breathtaking evening of dance rooted in time and place–a festive dialogue of sound, movement, and corporeal rapport.

About Caleb Teicher & Nic Gareiss

Caleb Teicher is a Bessie Award-winning performer, choreographer, and director who began their career as a founding member of Dorrance Dance, then in 2015 shifted their creative focus towards concert dance work with Caleb Teicher & Company. Nic Gareiss, named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch,” draws from many percussive dance practices to weave together a technique facilitating his love of improvisation; clog, flatfoot, and step dance vocabulary; and musical collaboration. Teicher and Gareiss are lauded for their status within their respective genres, with The New York Times naming Teicher “a rhythm connoisseur known for interdisciplinary collaborations" and Gareiss “a virtuoso step dancer in Irish and Appalachian traditions… an undersung treasure.”

Teicher previously performed at Jacob’s Pillow with Caleb Teicher & Company in appearances on the outdoor Henry J. Leir Stage in 2014, 2016, and 2017 as part of the Inside/Out series. In 2018, Caleb Teicher & Company with Conrad Tao developed work in a Pillow Lab residency, which led to a summer run in the Doris Duke Theatre in 2019. Teicher also appeared in SW!NG OUT in the Ted Shawn Theatre in 2022 and performed an excerpt of Rhapsody in Blue alongside Conrad Tao at Jacob’s Pillow’s Season Opening Gala in 2024. Gareiss served as an artistic advisor during Caleb Teicher & Company’s 2018 Pillow Lab, and as the footwork coach in the company’s 2019 run in the Doris Duke Theatre.

General admission is $69.50

This holiday season, join The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble, Philadelphia’s own all-women tap company, for The Tapcracker on Saturday, December 13 & Sunday, December 14, 2025!

With a cast of over 40 dancers from PA, NJ, and DE, The Tapcracker transports audiences to Paris, where an infestation of rats has thrown the city into chaos: toy soldiers guard the Eiffel Tower, mice wreak havoc in the Metro, and Duke Ellington’s swinging rendition of the beloved Tchaikovsky score will leave you dancing in your seat.

Tap Fest CAli

Annually, since 2009, Chapman University's Tap Ensemble (CUTE) has put on a show to showcase the work and art of our campus's tap dancers, along with special guest performers from all around the country, as is the tradition in American tap dance. In 2022, Chapman University/Musco Center for the Arts produced Chapman’s first-ever tap festival, Tap Fest California. The festival included CUTE’s Happy Chappy Tappy Show. Due to an incredible response from the tap community, in 2023, CUTE took on the task to continue the festival in a smaller, more intimate setting. Thus, Tap Fest Cali was born…and last year’s inaugural festival was a huge success, bringing together rhythm dancers from around the world to share their art with our campus and local community.

Tap dance is primarily an African American art form and brings cultural diversity to Chapman; CUTE works to preserve and educate the public on its value in the scheme of American dance. We hope you enjoy this fun, inclusive, affordable festival that has become CUTE’s most popular fundraiser each year.

Tap City NYC

Join us as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary at the Joyce Theater, 175 8th Avenue

The American Tap Dance Foundation started out as the American Tap Dance Orchestra. It was originally founded and created in 1986 by dancer/choreographer Brenda Bufalino. With the help of Tony Waag, and the late Charles "Honi" Coles, the ATDO created an original approach to tap dance with a concert orchestra of taps. Committed to celebrating one of America's few indigenous art forms, the ATDO created new concepts in contemporary tap employing a wide spectrum of musical tones and rhythms in the manner of a conventional orchestra.  As with instrumental soloists in a big band, individual dancers contribute their own virtuosity to the choreography, so that the whole becomes the sum of each dancer's unique style. The choreography for the ATDO, though encompassing tap’s tradition, expands the ideas of routines and flash, five-minute entertainments into whole evenings of work. Conceptually developed themes were woven into fugues and counter-rhythms with atmospheres and poetic qualities that offered a complete art experience.

Sarah Reich's Tap Music Project
Sep

to Sep 7

Sarah Reich's Tap Music Project

Sarah Reich’s Tap Music Project is a band consisting of tap dancers and musicians based out of Los Angeles, California. In 2011, world-renowned performer and choreographer, Sarah Reich started the band with tap dancers focusing on their art form as a percussive instrument. Sarah soon began to collaborate with musicians to write original music based from tap dance. The band has recently performed at the Ford Amphitheatre, UCLA JazzReggae Festival, Blue Whale Jazz Club, and the televised L.A. County Holiday Celebration to name a few.

Sarah Reich has emerged as one of the new leaders in the Art Form of Tap Dance.  She was featured in an article titled "the Bandleader" in Dance Magazine (2017). Sarah has been sought after to perform, choreograph, and teach in over 30 countries outside of the United States. She was toured with Scott Bradlee's world famous band, Postmodern Jukebox.

With her Tap Music Project intensives in various cities, Reich teaches tap dancers how to dance with more musicality, communicate with musicians and write music. Using a live band in class, she instructs students on how to "scat" rhythms or transcribe choreography with rhythm notation, among other skills.

Sarah is developing new, and exciting works with her company Tap Music Project, with her debut Tap Jazz Album titled “New Change”. This album is originally produced, composed from percussive tap rhythms, and performed by a great selection of musicians to create a unique sound. She hopes this is just the beginning:

"I want to be the first tap dancer to win a Grammy Award!"
